Looking for a violin music teacher in the Coffs Harbour region?

Jennen Ngiau-Keng, a professional violinist who moved to Coffs Harbour in 2019, has an impressive performance background with prestigious orchestras, including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, and Australian Chamber Orchestra.

A child prodigy, Jennen won over $100,000 in awards and prizes in music competitions since the age of 5, including the Gisborne International Music Competition, Kendall National Violin Competition, Hepzibah Menuhin Competition and Geelong Advertiser Music Competition.

He was a full scholarship student at Camberwell Grammar School and at the Australian National Academy of Music. In 2008, he obtained a Master of Music Performance Degree from the University of Tasmania. Jennen has studied under notable instructors such as John Harding, Alice Waten, and Jun Yi Ma, and has performed over fifty concertos as a soloist with orchestras in Australia and overseas.

Currently residing in Coffs Harbour to be close to his daughters, Jennen travels along the coast performing as a solo violinist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician. He performs for Russell Crowe in Nana Glen and for corporate and private events in the area.

Teaching Philosophy:

Jennen enjoys teaching the violin with a holistic approach involving breathing, relaxation, and focus. He emphasises clear communication and constantly reminds his students that the primary reason for playing the violin is personal enjoyment, which subsequently allows others to enjoy the music. His teaching philosophy focuses on practice efficiency—achieving results per minute—and instils in his students that the quality and regularity of practice are more important than the quantity.

He believes that the principles he teaches for violin practice can be applied to learning any skill. Jennen teaches his students to practice effectively with 100% focus, to plan their practice sessions, and to ensure they are always in control, creating a beautiful sound from the moment the bow touches the string.

Jennen encourages parents and other students to attend lessons and supports the idea of students recording their lessons to track progress and review information later. He also enjoys tutoring groups of musicians in orchestral or chamber music settings and conducting open masterclasses.
